RECENT RELEASES Since its initial release in 1984, several millions of units of BOULDER DASH have been purchased throughout the world on numerous platforms, with 4 versions appearing in the coin-operated arcades. The latest releases in the series include: 2008 Boulder Dash®-ROCKS!™ http://www.boulder-dash-rocks.com for the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP worldwide along with Boulder Dash®-Pirate’s Quest™ for Windows Online and Downloadable ‘try and buy'. Mobile versions of Boulder Dash®-ROCKS!™ including J2ME, BREW, Blackberry, Windows Mobile and iPhone starting in June. 2007 Boulder Dash®-ROCKS!™ for the Nintendo DS throughout Europe on November 22nd, distribution by Electronic Arts. Boulder Dash®-Treasure Pleasure ™ on Disney's Game Cafe, four years after the game's initial release... talk about having legs. 2006 Boulder Dash®-M.E.™2 for cell-phones with co-publisher i-Play. A limited-edition release of the original Boulder Dash® on the Atari 5200. 2005 Boulder Dash®-Tournaments for Prizes™ for cell phones; Boulder Dash® and Boulder Dash®-Panic!™ for Danger's hiptop/Sidekick SmartPhones; Boulder Dash®-Vol. 2 'Rockford's Revenge'™ for the Atari 5200. 2004 Boulder Dash®-PocketPC Extreme™ and Boulder Dash®-SmartPhone Extreme™. 2003 Boulder Dash®-Treasure Pleasure™ for Java and Flash enabled browsers or for off-line on Windows PCs; Boulder Dash®-M.E.™ for J2ME, BREW, and mophun cell-phones. As a result of a license to JVC and a sub-license to Nintendo, JVC released an NES version of BOULDER DASH® Volume in North America and Nintendo published NES and Game Boy versions in Europe with Data East selling the NES version in Japan. First Star licensed certain rights pertaining to only BOULDER DASH® Volume I to KEMCO. As a result, in late 2002 and early 2003 KEMCO released Boulder Dash® EX™ for Game Boy Advance throughout the world.
At about the same time, in 2002, First Star and its partner FlyOrDie/Solware released BOULDER DASH®-Xmas 2002™ which can be played online in Java or Flash enabled browsers, or downloaded for play on PCs supporting Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. In 2001 a JAVA-enabled cell phone version of BOULDER DASH Vol. I was released in Japan by KEMCO. (Which due to its success was followed by a cell-phone version of Boulder Dash®-EX™, released only in Japan.) HISTORY
BOULDER DASH was first published by First Star in 1984 on the C-64, Apple II and Atari 4/800. After the original BOULDER DASH, the second game, BOULDER DASH 2- “Rockford’s Revenge” ™ was combined with BOULDER DASH and published by Electronic Arts as SUPER BOULDER DASH™ on the C-64, Apple II, IBM-CGA and Atari 4/800 from 1986-87. The BOULDER DASH CONSTRUCTION KIT™ was published in North America by EPYX on the C-64, Apple II, IBM-CGA , Atari ST and Atari 4/800 from 1987-1988. It was also licensed for sale throughout the world including Europe, Scandinavia, Australia and Japan on MSX, NEC and various disk and cartridge platforms unique to these territories.
In addition BOULDER DASH or its derivatives have been released four times into the coin-operated arcades: twice by Data East (1985 & 1991), once by EXIDY and once by Mastertronics/Arcadia Systems as ROCKFORD™. Mastertronics also published floppy versions of ROCKFORD on C-64, Spectrum, IBM-CGA & EGA, Atari ST and Amiga. Boulder Dash® is a registered trademark of First Star Software, Inc.
